What Nigeria Looked Like the Day Tinubu Took Over

Before Tinubu was inaugurated into power, there was no fuel subsidy and petrol was sold at N185 per litre. But immediately Tinubu became the president of Nigeria, he removed the fuel subsidy with the justification that the subsidy costs the previous government a sum of N18.4 billion daily.

The removal of fuel subsidy immediately led to an increase in the cost of things, most especially food products, with complaints from producers, wholesalers, and retailers that there is a hike in the transportation of goods.

The exchange rate of naira to 1 dollar is N460, Before Tinubu was inaugurated as the president of Nigeria. But now of Tinubu 3 years in office, the exchange rate of naira to 1 dollar is over N1000.

During Buhari’s tenure, petrol seemed cheaper and the naira appeared more stable; however, this left the country in more debt and structural distortions, which means Tinubu started on the foundation of debt and a system that’s not in favor of the country’s economy.
