On June 29, 2026, Oyo State recorded one of its few pieces of good news in recent memory. It is about the Oyo kidnap update as of July.
Two children kidnapped from Ebinpejo village in Ibarapa East Local Government Area were rescued by police with four suspects arrested.
On June 27, 2026, armed hoodlums invaded the village, ransacked homes, assaulted residents, and took the two children. Then the Police received a distress call that day which led to a rescue joint operation including Oyo Police, Amotekun, vigilantes, and hunters as they traced the kidnappers into a forest hideout. The children were rescued safely and promptly. One sustained injury but both received medical attention before reuniting with families.
Suspects were apprehended around the rescue period and arrested early hours of the following day. Police statements and news reports came in on June 29, 2026 as they announced the successful rescue which indicated it happened very quickly after the abduction.
Oyo Kidnap Update July 2026 Reveals Two Separate Incidents With Two Very Different Outcomes
The Oyo kidnap update reveals two separable incidents with two different outcomes. The first quick and successful outcome is the Ibarapa East attack on June 27, 2026. Two children were abducted during the raid thereby involving ransacking homes and assaulting residents.

However, the two children were rescued after a joint rescue operation Oyo State Police, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters while four suspects were arrested and firearms were recvered.
Meanwhile, the second incidents that occurred in May 15, 2026 at Oriire LGA school is a coordinated attacks on multiple schools including Baptist Nursery/Primary in Yawota, L.A. Primary, and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esinle/Esiele areas with a bad outcome.
This attack led to the abduction of 39 school children and 7 teachers which amounts to 46 people. These victims have spent over 50 days in captivity. Till now, there is no confirmed release or rescue yet. However, they believed these victims are held in the Old Oyo National Park Forest area.
The outcome of the second event shows a delayed crisis, meanwhile Governor Seyi Makinde and federal authorities are actively involved, but families remain in deep distress amid uncertainty.
Seven Weeks and Still No News. What Is Actually Being Done
Social media repeatedly claims that the Oriire 39 abductees have been rescued which is not true. Fake rescue news like this is dangerous. It misleads families, reduces public pressure on the government and can compromise ongoing rescue operations.
The state government have made some efforts towards the Oyo state kidnap release. He has done regular briefings with service commanders, he personally visited the affected communities, imposed curfew in affected and close related areas, and he has assured the public that credible lead is being pursued and all lawful measures are in use.
There is also support from the federal government where President Tinubu has approved recruitment of 1,000 forest guards for Oyo and deployment of a specialized rescue team.

The Oyo kidnap update reported that kidnappers have reduced some demands and are focusing on ransom, but authorities emphasize rescue over payment. Oyo State House of Assembly rejects ransom negotiations as they push for intensified rescue, intelligence, and sustained operations.
Final Thoughts on the Oyo Kidnap Update
The family of Michael Oyedokun, the teacher beheaded, is waiting for both his colleagues and his justice just as Nigerians have refused to let the world forget. Davido’s World Cup jacket, the NUT strike, the Abuja protests, Sunday Igboho’s ultimatum, and many more activities are efforts made to keep the memories alive.
