Chidimma Adetshina Deportation, A young woman, Chidimma Adetshina, who stood on the Miss Universe stage representing Nigeria as first runner-up, is now fighting and has led to her deportation in 2026.
Adetshina gained widespread attention in 2024 during the Miss South Africa pageant. She withdrew during the controversy over her citizenship eligibility.
Chidimma Adetshina mother has Mozambican indigeneship and her father is a Nigerian. South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs (DHA) investigated claims of identity fraud related to her mother’s documents, which also affected Adetshina’s South African identity and travel documents at that point in time.
She was being dragged over whether she has the right to live in the country she was born in since being born in South Africa does not automatically confer citizenship under South Africa current laws. It generally requires at least one parent to be a South African citizen or permanent resident at the time of birth.
She initially held South African citizenship/documents, which were later revoked or stripped following the 2024 investigation into alleged identity fraud by her mother.
As a result of this, Chidimma Adetshina deportation has been extensively looked upon in the courtroom of Cape Town and July 16 is going to decide Chidimma Adetshina deportation.
What Happened the Night She Was Arrested
Chidmma Adetshina was arrested in the Summer Greens area of Cape Town in early June 2026 and she appeared before the Cape Town Regional Court on June 9, 2026. However, she was later released on a warning rather than being detained.
During the day of her arrest, DHA’s central law enforcement unit first identified her whereabouts when they were investigating her immigration status. Immigration officers found her and her minor son at the residence. They said that she neither had valid legal status to remain in South Africa.
As a result of this, the immigration officer filed a court document that she was allegedly residing in South Africa illegally. However, the conditions attached to her release is that she must remain at the address where she was arrested and notify immigration authorities of any change to her residence, employment, or movements while the case continues.
Why South Africa’s Home Affairs Department Says She Has No Right to Stay
The South Africa’s Home Affairs Department insists on Chidimma Adetshina deportation matter because they said she has no right to stay and thereby categorized as an “illegal foreigner” under the Immigration Act in South Africa.
After interviewing Adetshina and checking DHA’s electronic residency systems, immigration officers confirmed she does not hold any valid permit, visa, or citizenship allowing her to live in South Africa.
Chidimma Adetshina South African identity documents and citizenship were previously revoked after the 2024 investigation where her mother was using stolen identity details. However, media reported she re-entered South Africa via the Lebombo border post from Mozambique around mid-2024 while presenting herself as a South African citizen.

Chidimma Adetshina advanced to the Top 30 of Miss South Africa in 2024 before withdrawing amid public backlash over her citizenship. Her mother was separately arrested in 2025 on charges of contravening South Africa’s Immigration Act and Identification Act.
In March 2026, Minister Schreiber rejected Adetshina’s application for a ‘letter of good cause’ which is an effective formal pardon that would have let her regularise her stay despite the earlier violations.
