Iran US Peace Deal Has Been Signed

Finally, on June 17, 2026, Iran US peace deal has been signed after a long time of war between both parties.

This will end a conflict that started on February 28 which has killed thousands of people, closed the world’s most important shipping lane, and sent global oil above $100 per barrel.

The US President posted on his social media that:

‘The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!’

What the Islamabad Accord Actually Says and What Each Side Gets

The Islamabad Accord which is officially known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a 14-point framework agreement/MoU signed to enhance swift relationship between the two parties.

It is called the Islamabad Accord majorly because Pakistan was involved in the agreement process of resolving the war. So, it was named after the place where the agreement discussion took place in Islambad.

The 14-point memorandum of understanding sets out a framework for talks during a 60-day negotiation period. The United States and Iran signed the interim memorandum on June 15 to 17. Iran can resume oil sales, the US blockade on Iranian ports also ends, and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz resumes.

The ceasefire extends for 60 days to allow talks on the nuclear programme and other matters. According to the Iranian state media, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister in person of Kazem Gharibabadi said Iran sees this deal as a victory.

Iran has effectively controlled the Strait of Hormuz since after the war began on February 28. They virtually shut down the vital passage for around 20% of the world’s oil. The US blockaded Iranian ports to retaliate to the action of Iran of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Why the Switzerland Ceremony Was Postponed and What Happened Instead

The signing ceremony scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19 was canceled at a short notice due to the strikes of Israeli against Lebanon where Iran sees this as red of flag in breaching the agreement of the cease fire in the Islamabad MoU.

Aside that, parties involved are being diplomatic and logical in their operation as the Vice President of US, JD Vance canceled his trip, Pakistan’s PM, Shehbaz Sharif also postponed his visit, and Iran’s delegate refused to travel.

However, the Switzerland ceremony was considered less important since the Islamabad MoU was already signed virtually by the US president. James Bays reporting from Burgenstock said ‘This is not just a ceremonial signing ceremony because the documents have already been signed. It is the official kickoff of the 59 days remaining for these sides to come to a conclusion.’
